Colonoscopy Preparation Instructions

If you are having a colonoscopy you will need to take an oral laxative preparation (frequently referred to as “colon prep”) to clean out your colon.  There are several colon preparations available, and your provider will generally recommend one for you based on your particular situation.

Some Important Reminders:

  • Read instructions one week prior to your appointment, which includes your individualized instructions regarding your medications
  • Obtain in advance all necessary items needed to begin your preparation
  • If directed to use the Miralax/Gatorade preparation:  The Miralax can be obtained over-the-counter as 238 gm/527 gm (bottle)
